Osmos (for iPhone) Released

Posted by on Aug 4, 2010 in iPhone/iPad, Osmos | 10 Comments

Ah, the joys of the App Store: the iPhone version of Osmos is now available worldwide, and we didn’t even have to push a button to make it “live.” That said, we’ve done a lot of work leading up to this, and we’re excited! If the iPad version is a good indicator, we’re hoping it’ll be a hit!

If you’re interested in all the juicy details about Osmos on the iPhone, visit this page. Or, if you trust us implicitly, (as you should ;-) ,) click the App Store image below and buy this glorious piece of iPhone gaming goodness for just $2.99 (in the US); and then, write a review on the App Store (or “promote” others’ reviews), and tell your iPhone gaming friends.

Buy on AppstoreOnce again, we’d like to thank and congratulate the man behind the port, Aaron Barsky. He’s done an amazing job, as we think you’ll agree. We’d also like to thank our friends, family and awesome beta testers who helped us get here.

Well, now that all iOS devices are covered, (updates aside of course,) we plan on writing a few “post-mortem” posts about our experiences in iOS-land and the App Store. Hopefully they’ll both amuse and be useful/interesting for other devs and curious fans. Here are some of our planned topics:

  • iPad vs. iPhone development and optimization.
  • “The Russian!”
  • Why Osmos is not a Universal app. (It’s not just because we’re greedy.)
  • Adventures in iTunes Connect.

So check back in this space soon for more…

Thanks, and happy Osmoting!

Been looking forward to this since … well, since I had an iphone really (which was before you announced the iphone version). The game doesn’t disappoint – congratulations. I’ve played through the first few levels and it’s just as absorbing (pun intended?) as the PC version, and the multi-touch controls just feel so right. Flicking right and left to control time just feels so much better than using mouse buttons.

If I had to come up with a complaint, did I notice the tiniest, very very occasional stutter on some levels? It’s so tiny I don’t really know whether it’s my imagination or not.

But congratulations folks. This is a real achievement. In the last couple of months, iOS4 may have just become _the_ platform to play Osmos.

    Wow!
I have been waiting for this for months – and I’ve not been disapointed!
Every bit as good as the computer version, maybe better with the addition of arcade mode.
I’ll be posting a review on iTunes soon. A great achievement! Well done!

Hey guys, it’s a great game and I love it so far! The only thing I discovered is that when you take a call and come back to the game (after the call), the sound has gone quiet. Hope you’re aware of this little bug – otherwise I really love this game!

Yes, I can second @Phil’s comment about the sound dying when you go back to the game after taking a call. Had to quite the game and restart to get the sound back. (Really quit, that is, not just use iOS’s multi-tasking to flip out and back in again.)

And the tiny graphical blip I mentioned? I think, but can’t be certain, that it’s confined to the orbit levels. But it really is tiny.

Thanks for the great feedback folks! :)

As for the phone call + sound issue, we have a fix in our development version (along with a few other minor fixes) and will be submitting the update to Apple shortly!

Love this app for the iphone is really nice and relaxing and brings me back to my physics and astronomy roots. The only issue I’ve run into is the sound/music will not work. I’ve tried closing/reopening I even started over the levels and nothing. Shame really as the soundtracks/audio is what made this game an A+ for me. Any suggestions?
