Kindle Fire

Postby 1nfinitum » Tue Jan 31, 2012 2:24 pm

I get a parse error when I try to install with the .apk I got from the humble bundle on my Kindle Fire, "there is a problem parsing the package." Can anyone help?

Hi 1nfinitum,

The tablet version of Osmos is designed for pretty large screens, so any tablet that's 7" or smaller should install the handset version. This is usually what's behind the package parsing error. Let us know if it doesn't work out.

Unrelated issue same device.
Installs fine, launches and aside from the slightest of hiccups on menu loading runs fine.
Second run Hemiphere logo comes onto screen and app hangs. Closing, killing, and rebooting all have no effect. Same scenario on subsequent installs.

Hi heyzeus,

Are you still having issues running Osmos on your Kindle Fire? Is it rooted or otherwise modified in any way?

Not rooted.
Updated Osmos, but alas no improvement. First run still flawless but subsequent runs still hanging at Hemisphere games splash page.

Hi heyzeus,

We were successfully able to reproduce the hang issue on the Kindle Fire. We'll look into it and hopefully get a fix out in a future update. Thanks for the logs and extra information.

Wow, you took a look at that fast, thank you!
I look forward to such a version, not nearly as fun on my tiny iOS screen :( .

I also have this problem on my Kindle Fire.
The demo did not crash, but once I paid for and installed the
full version, it crashed after the second running

I found that the game does NOT crash when run from a different
launcher Like GO Launcher. It works every time I run it from
GO Launcher. This may be a place to start looking for the problem.

I hope this helps.

I hoped that the 2/28 update had fixed this issue on my non-rooted Fire, and indeed it seemed to have done so for a short time.

The behavior when it was working was odd, though. It would hang on startup at the hemisphere game screen. The dialog box with the choices of "force close " and "wait " would come up. I clicked "force close." Screen goes solid white. Hemisphere games screen comes up again. A moment later, "best with headphones " and the game runs.

It only worked like this for a couple of days, though. Now it just hangs at the hemisphere screen. Force quit takes me back to the carousel.

I'm gonna try an alternate launcher, I think.

Before installing GO launcher as a workaround, I thought I would try reinstalling the binary from 2/28.

That gave me one game which I quit after beating a few levels. When I tried to launch it a second time, it hanged at the "hemisphere games" screen. Selecting "force quit " takes me back to the home carousel.

Off I go to install GO launcher...
