@Jazz Ad: If you run the Steam version again, does it still run slowly?

@kajaco2: Could you send us the file Documents/OsmosDemo/osmos.log as well please?

@everybody else: sorry about the temporarily broken link on the demo download. oops. all is well now... :)

Thanks,
Eddy

I uninstalled and reinstalled the steam version, both now work.
For the sake of it I uninstalled both and reinstalled the steam version only. It was slow.
Reinstalled your site's version again, then reinstalled steam version, both work.
Basically, whatever is done by your site's version allows the Steam version to be properly installed.

Hi Jazz Ad,

Thanks for running all those tests! Strange results though... those versions are pretty much identical. Could you send me a copy of the Osmos log file please. (MyDocuments/Osmos/Osmos.log, via the forum, or to eddybox @ this domain) Maybe it'll have some clues as to what's happening.

Thanks!
Eddy

Hi Jazz Ad,

I take it that's the log from an install that's working correctly?
If you still have the patience, would you mind uninstalling and trying again directly from the Steam install (with the slow framerate) and sending us the log from that?

Thanks!
Eddy

Hi I'm having some problems with playing the demo on my Mac side using Crossover. I think the problem is with Crossover and my terrible lack of using it.... Anyways, I just upgraded my Crossover (from ver.7 to 8) and now I can't seem to get it to work. In the bottle I have for Osmos, the following is installed (according to the applications tab in Manage Bottles):

CrossOver HTML engine
Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable
OpenAL
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable

I'm not sure what the problem is. I installed Osmos, but every time I try to go to play it the icon pops up at the bottom of my screen and then disappears, without ever going into the actual game.

Does anybody know what I'm doing incorrectly? I know it can be played using Crossover because I WAS playing it before I updated.

Thanks for your time.

Sorry, I would have but I bought the full game in the between time. Steam won't let you have a demo and full game installed at once .

Jazz Ad, it looks like your game was crashing in the sound system, and that there was some weird voodoo happening with OpenAL. Just to be clear -- do you have the game up and running smoothly now?

FWIW, it should be quite possible to have the Steam demo and full version running side-by-side. You're seeing that this isn't working?

Thanks!
Dave

Hi majorman,

Sadly I'm not a Mac guy and so don't have much to offer you. We've got a bunch of Mac users on these forums, though, so hopefully someone can help you out with your troubles. If you manage to figure things out, please do post back with the solution that worked for you.

Thanks!
Dave

I have a flicker problem - the whole screen flickers, and I have a flickering bar that slowly scrolls up - similar to the effect of recording a television screen with a camcorder. I tried messing with the settings to no avail - and when run in windowed mode, I still get the sound, but I have no image - just gray. I'm running the game in windows 7, nvidia 7800gtx gpu with a triple-core phenom II amd processor. Drivers up to date. I tried the steam demo and the one on the site, same effect.

If the issue's resolved it's highly likely I will buy the game - beat the demo, very cool, fun. :) I know windows 7 is a beta OS, but it's release is actually not very far away, and I don't think I'll be using any other OS till it's released, so..
