Osmos observes openGL rendering problems on openSUSE 11.4 RC

Postby nice0051 » Fri Feb 18, 2011 3:26 am

For the details, see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673072

You can examine the symptom in this picture: https://bugzillafiles.novell.org/attach ... ?id=414758

Today I installed the 64bit demo version of Osmos onto openSUSE 11.4. After
starting it I had to realize that the openGL rendering is somewhat broken. I
see thin hair-like lines bordering textures (see the attached image). This
problem didn't appear in openSUSE 11.3.

I'm using KDE4 with desktop effects enabled but disabling the effects doesn't
make any difference: the unnecessary lines are still visible.

I purchased the full version. Wanted to comment on the Demo. Sometimes it freezes up or when I start it only a black screen and arrow appear. If I turn up the volume during the demo the demo also closes. Hopefully the full version doesn't have these bugs.

My system: Dell Latitude D620 / Linux Mint 9 32-bit with Gnome

Hi Linux_Jester,

The random freeze that some folks were experiencing in the Linux version of Osmos was fixed in this patch to the retail version. I simply haven't had a change to repackage the demos.

Regards,
Dave

Will be there any (at least) 1.6.1 version of the linux demo?
I need them for closing my following bugreports:

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673072
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673074

Can you give me some brief technial description of the reason of these bugs?

Hi nice0051,

We are planning on upgrading the Linux demo to 1.6.1; no specific timeframe on that I'm afraid.

In terms of how this will affect the bug reports you've mentioned: the second bug regarding TTF loading will be solved by the update (a content issue; the FortuneCity.ttf in the original Linux release contained a flaw). However, it's unlikely our update will magically fix the first bug (Suse/OpenGL/translucent seams), as there's nothing graphics-related addressed by the patch.

Cheers,
Dave
