First impressions

Postby Exportforce » Tue Aug 18, 2009 11:03 am

I just played the retail now a bit and it's really quite fun.
Only thing is, that it is on some points a bit hard, but I like the challenge, but if you're surrounded by reds at start it's not nice ;)

Else I only encountered one random crash until now.

A bit short but entertaining game.
Maybe add a "Mission-Editor" and definitly add Mod-Support. This could keep the game alive.
Also it would be funny to be able to unlock different skins.

Also another Idea of game Mode is an unlimited mode.
The Playfield is just unlimited and while you grow, other orbs will be spawned incl. aggressive ones that will try to hunt for you.

regards

Hi ExportForce,

Agreed: a level editor is in our plans!

I'm surprised you find the game short though. Have you finished it yet? Even hardcore gamers are reporting that it took them 6-8 hours to finish.
Also, if you find the later levels too difficult and want to just chill, you can always replay random versions of your favorite (preferred difficulty) levels.

As for the crash, please send us a copy of your log file: <User>/My Documents/Osmos/Osmos.log and we'll try to pinpoint and fix it in an update. And of course let us know if you find a way to reproduce it.

Thanks!
Eddy

I would enjoy new personal mote themes, if you look at Hemisphere games' vimeo page, there's quite a few nifty experimental motes, I liked the one which makes the mote look like a jellyfish.
An unlimited/survival mode would be fun, the border could gradually grow in proportion to the total mass, and new motes could randomly float in with the border being one way. If you could select which motes appear, the better!

Any chance of being able to make the randomizer generate even more difficult levels, rather than just equal difficulty?

Thats the crashpart.
Yup already finished. Took me about 4 hours if I took a right look at the clock.

I am very looking forward to updates and new content a lot.

Thanks for the crash log ExportForce. Strange... you say this only happened to you once?

4 hours -- that's very impressive! What did you think of the bonus content?

Thanks,
Eddy

As for other "themes" for the player's look... it's on our list, though it took quite a while to get the current player mote to look as good as it does! We'll keep you posted...

Ditto on survival mode. We've experimented with this kind of thing, but haven't found something worthy of shipping in the completed game yet. I do like the idea though. We'll keep experimenting.

Cheers,
Eddy

I wasn't aware how difficult this would be. I was excited for orbital physics but man I can't wrap my head around the epicyclic dynamics....

I just want to beat those levels! I wish there was some difficulty option or something.

@fred104: don't feel the need to "beat the game". replay the levels that you enjoy, (don't forget you can play random versions), or that challenge you at a fun level. the harder levels are there for those who like a tough challenge. remember, it's supposed to be "zen". :)

hahaha, I know the feeling Fred ;-) But do try to relax, take it slow, soak up the atmosphere... also, don't forget about time-slowdown. It's Osmos' main difficulty know, where you can slow down time during the dicey challenge bits.
