Thanks as always for your feedback and detective work, everone!

@ Zarat: looks like the achievment textures are either absent or not loading. Have a look in the Osmos log file (Osmos.log, in the Osmos directory of your Documents folder) -- anything there indicating that some of the textures weren't loading correctly?

@ Moulax
@ TheTourist314
Great idea! The current implementation always picks out the first sound device, but I agree that it should go with the best. I'll look into this for rolling out to an update.

Regarding the S1-2 slowdown: we're looking into it! Thanks for your reports and also for your patience as we week to reproduce and resolve this issue.

Cheers!
Dave

Nope looking alright except this:
Osmos.log wrote:Localization: using language "de"
Localization: couldn't load Osmos-de.loc
Localization: falling back to Osmos-en.loc

Don't remember if the installer asked me, if so I might have chosen english intentionally.

Back to the actual problem, I checked the textures folder in the osmos installation and it has things like "ambient_complete.tga" and "ambient_complete_g.tga" which look very much like they would be the achievement icons. So I got no clue why they are not loading. Incase it helps the log says it found "OpenGL version: 1.4.0 - Build 4.14.10.4609", graphics card is an onboard intel 915GM/GMS/910GML. The rest of the game plays fine, its just the achievements screen.

Dave,

I ran into an odd bug/crash yesterday in Warped Chaos 3. I was about a third of the way finished swallowing the attractors and was headed towards a regular (blue) mote slightly smaller than mine. I should have swallowed the mote, but I passed right through it . I then bounced off a wall and pass "through" a second mote, again without the two motes getting joined. A few seconds later, the game crashed.

I wished I had taken a screenshot of my mote passing in front of or behind the mote, but it happened in a split second. Sorry there's isn't much debugging info to go on, and this is the one and only time it's crashed on me. I didn't see any info about it in the log, other than the lack of a "App exiting -- bye!" that indicates a clean exit.

@ Zarat : Thanks for your post. Don't worry about the localization messages; they're just saying that you're running Windows in German but that Osmos has not been localised to German (yet!), so it defaults to using English. Regarding the achievement icons: yeah, it sounds like the texture files are there -- in your log, are there any lines of the form "error loading tga file ambient_complete.tga" etc?

@ HoosTrax : sounds like a strange edge-case bug with the collision detection. You're the first to report this bug, and it sounds like it's going to be hard to reproducable. Do you remember what you had been doing, which levels you had been playing, etc, before playing Warped Chaos 3?

Thanks gang!

I downloaded the demo here a few days ago and had this problem where the game would randomly flicker to some update screen, then flash back, resulting in the game going SUPER fast for half a second, usually resulting in multiple things disappearing from the level. I bought the steam version shortly after that and still have the same problem. I tried reinstalling the game (yet somehow it remembered what levels I had beaten?), and I also turned off all updating in the defaults.cfg file. Now this happens at an intense rate when I start the game and it prevents me from actually doing anything. I will try to get some video of the problem if you don't understand. I have also disabled steam in-game, but that does nothing. This problem has persisted from the non-steam demo.

@ Red Alert : if you disable Steam Friends in game, does the flickering problem persist?

@ Soran : Did you try lowering the rendering detail in the Visual Options menu?

Nope, the only thing looking like an error was the localization stuff. In any case I've uploaded a copy of the log, though I don't think it'll help you much. Some other stuff I can think off: The installer was a preordered "osmosinstaller_1.5.6.exe" downloaded at release day with md5 hash b888deec9d53c8b37c7d2f3fb7d1107b ... also I didn't install the game in the standard path but used "c:\spiele\osmos".

I DON'T have the same thing as patrick_leb: the game will not return to normal speed once the level has loaded for me. It stays running horrendously slowly until the game eventually crashes.
