Hi qworn,

Thanks for your patience. We've got a fix in the works that should have the game working with sound for you; hope to roll it out soon!

Cheers,
Dave

Hey there,

downloaded my copy of Osmos via Steam today.
I'm trying to run it on my laptop.. It's an Acer 5739G w/ core2duo T6400, ATI M HD4570 and 4gb ram. I'm using windows7 rc 32bit build 7100.

When starting the game, the blue game screen comes up and after a short time it says "loading sounds..", after that some sounds start and the Hemisphere Games logo veeeery slowly fades in. at that point i alt+tab out and exit the game using the taskmanager..

i have tried all the tips in tha FAQ section. also i updated my drivers, open al etc.. the "nosound" option did not work either..

here's the log entry:

I was having the same issues in Windows 7. It would go to the loading sounds screen and then crash either during or soon after. What finally worked for me is going into the playback devices menu (right click the sound icon in the lower right) and disabling ALL playback sound devices. I then loaded up Osmos, alt-tabbed back into windows, re-enabled the sound device I wanted to use and voila, game runs perfectly.

Awesome GoShogun, thanks for the tip! I've added your tip to the Osmos FAQ.

FYI, I've got a code fix that should address this issue. If any of you bought the Steam version of the game and would be will to help test this fix, please email me at daveburke@hemispheregames.com

Thanks!
Dave

Hey,

a workaround is to activate exactly one (1) playback device. Deactivate the rest. The game will start normally. No need to tab out and stuff.

Best Regards and happy playing

I had tried that first and it worked for my motherboard's onboard sound device but not for my Soundblaster X-fi. The alt+tab method worked for the Soundblaster sound card.

Great stuff gang, thanks again for posting. I've found a proper code fix for this issue that will be making its way into an update that we'll be rolling out shortly.

Enjoy the game,
Dave

With a new OS one should always look to the drivers first. Until you get the official drivers for your video card you should not expect an optimal game experience.
After I updated my driver to the official Nvidia one the game ran like a champ.
Thanks for the great support. Top Notch.
