Game crashes

Postby Aistina » Thu Nov 26, 2009 5:44 am

I just purchases this game, but it crashes for me after "loading sounds". If I launch the game with the nosound option, it does not crash. I have installed the OpenAL drivers from the Creative website, and my drivers are up to date.

Log file:

Log opened on Thu Nov 26 00:46:33 2009
Commandline: d:\games\steam\steamapps\common\osmos\Osmos.exe
Preinitializing game: STEAM version 1.5.8 1104

Found 3 devices:

Device 2: Digital Audio Interface (SB Audigy)(62)
Device 3: Generic Software(256)

Loading post-splash sounds
Received stats and achievements from Steam

Manually setting soundDevice "0" in the Config.cfg file did not solve the issue.

Any help? :(

Note, I also posted this at SPUF, but I have a feeling I'm more likely to get an answer here.

Hmm, this is strange. When I attached a debugger to it after it crashed, and exited the debugger, the game continued to the menu as if nothing happened and ran fine!

Consecutive runs of the game still crashed.

Hi Aistina,

Your Osmos.log lists three sound devices:

Device 1: Speakers (SB Audigy)(62) (DEFAULT)
Device 2: Digital Audio Interface (SB Audigy)(62)
Device 3: Generic Software(256)

Try selecting the software driver with soundDevice "2" (the device-list is zero based).

Other folks encountering a similar issue should look in their Osmos.log (in the Osmos directory of your Documents folder) and try manually selecting their machine's software device.

Hi, I was getting the game crash issue and have solved it by disabling my sound blaster audigy in Windows Control Panel - Device Manager.

I am Running Windows 7 with onboard sound & Creative Audigy & USB Microsoft Lifechat headset. The Audigy has up to date drivers but will crash the game even with the headset and onboard disabled / unplugged.

Using the headset the game works fine.

Ok i think i know what the problem is and how to fix

with most creative cards it has the sound and digital audio interface this can be sound in the sound entry under control panel, with both listed simply right click and click disable, with that disabled the game should run fine or at least works for me

end result should look like that this
