Hi Radioactivedude,
Have a look in your Osmos.log (in the Osmos directory of your Documents folder) and see if any other sound devices are listed at startup. If so, open the Osmos.cfg file in that same file and change the soundDevice parameter to point to the new device.
For example, Osmos listed the following devices for a recent poster:
Device 1: Speakers (SB Audigy)(62) (DEFAULT)
Device 2: Digital Audio Interface (SB Audigy)(62)
Device 3: Generic Software(256)
By default Osmos would select Device 1, but you can manually select other devices by specifying a new value for soundDevice.
Note that soundDevice is zero-based; so, to select the software device in the case above, you'd use soundDevice "2". I know. It's a programmer thing
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Still No Sound!
Thanks for your quick response!
Apparently OpenAL doesn't recognize any audio device as I get this:
Initializing SoundSystem...
Initializing OpenAL
Getting OpenAL device list
Found no devices
WARNING: Failed to initialize OpenAL
Loading pre-splash sounds
Loading post-splash sounds

Sorry to hear that Radioactivedude. Yeah, a quick Google search reveals there have been issues in the past with onboard Realtek's support for OpenAL.

Re: Still No Sound!
How frustrating! I also have a RealTek sound card and, predictably, have the same issue. I sent a quick, hopeful email to the audio contact listed on their website. Perhaps I should look into getting a new sound card.

FYI, folks, we've got a code-fix in the works that might work around this issue for you. More info soon.

Re: Still No Sound!
I just bought this game on Steam.
I have no Sound and this is driving me nuts. I'm on XP, using a DELTA 44 Audio Card, and never had any problems with any other game. It seems to be clearly connected to OpenAL. I tried the following:
01. Uinstalling OPENAL
02. Restarting Windows
03. Installing OPENAL (Size: 782,336)
03. Restarting Windows
04. Game Sound is working
05. Restarting Windows
06. Game Sound is not working anymore
I tried this 2 times now and it always turns out like that. Is steam updating OPENAL even though it shouldnt? I've copied the OPENAL.EXE from the OSMOS Demo Folder into the OSMOS folder.
I bought this game now and its not working. This is sad. PLEASE HELP ME!
When working OSMOS always logs this:
When not working OSMOS always logs this:
BTW: I Have a GEFORCE 8600 GT .. .and i read most other people having that problem had a Geforce 8XXX too! HMM! Any solution?
Its clearly a problem with OPENAL, but what can we do?? IM SO SAD NOW
