Hi all,
Some players have been reporting intermittent static/crackle when playing Osmos with a SoundBlaster X-Fi card.
Looks like Creative just released new drivers (as of June 26/09) for supporting these cards on Windows 7/Vista/XP; if you're encountering this issue, please verify you've been running with the latest drivers?
Creative's site: http://support.creative.com/downloads/?h=7
Thanks,
Dave

A fix for this issue: updating to the 2.18.0013 version of your drivers will solve the problem.
Just had an player inform me of the following info:

How about that. I was nearly completely sure that I had downloaded the latest driver, but I must've used an old one after reinstalling Windows.
Either way, after installing SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0013, the game seems to work just fine. I only played for about 40 minutes, but it used to happen after 10-15, so it looks to be smooth sailings. Admittedly, I feel a bit stupid for not checking, but at least it's all fixed up, right? Heh.
Thanks for the help, Dave.

Re: Sound static on X-Fi sound cards?
I am also experiencing the Static.
I have a card that is based off the X-Fi processor/chipset by Createive, but it's actually manufactured and designed by a company Auzentech. (http://www.auzentech.com/). The card I have is the Auzen X-FI™ Prelude 7.1 (http://www.auzentech.com/site/products/x-fi_prelude.php). I have the latest drivers from their website... am I screwed?
I really want to play this game, but without the music... I feel like I'm not getting half the game

Sorry I should have told everyone, I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and running the game out of Steam.

Hi Keith_C
There's no questions that Osmos' music is a big part of the experience. You mention you're running 64-bit Windows... do you by any chance have AMD Athlon 64 X2? If so, there are some known issues with memory corruption in a couple of the libraries that Osmos uses that we've just fixed, and that we'll be rolling out to Steam today.
So, hang tight and hopefully today's Steam update will fix your woes!

Re: Sound static on X-Fi sound cards?
Unfortunately no, these are my full system specs:
Intel Core i7 920 Bloomfield core, 8MB Cache
eVGA x58 SLI
Corsair XMS3 TR3X6G1600C9 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24
eVGA 8800 GTX (two, in SLI)
Azuntech 7.1 Prelude
4x Seagate 320 GB in two RAID 1 mirrors (System and Storage)
Corsair 750W
...
Does anyone else think this looks like a gasping cyclops?
Edit: Took out extra stuff, as I pasted this from elsewhere

Re: Sound static on X-Fi sound cards?
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with all updates installed and the latest drivers for my X-Fi card.
I get static often and on exiting the game, it seems to lower the volume of my front right speaker (5.1 setup)
Running other programs doesn't help, I have to reboot to fix it.
Never had this problem with the demo though.
I hope you can find the problem and fix it as this is a brilliant game.
----Edit----
Things seem a bit more stable now. I deleted and reinstalled the game through steam and updated my OpenAL files. Sound didn't die within 5 mins like usual.

@ Lucifer6642 : glad to hear updating OpenAL did the trick! At this point, then, are your sound troubles entirely solved?
@ Keith_C : thanks for your specs. What processor do you have?
Thanks,
Dave

Intel Core i7 920 is the processor, it's the Core i7 line, the new line after the Core 2 Duo's.

Hi Keith_C,
Was the latest Osmos update on Steam able to fix the problems you were having with sound static?
Thanks,
Dave
